BREGLIA - BARNA - TROTICOLTURA - PIANURE

This walk follows the "Via dei Monti Lariani" - a marvelous itinerary of 125 km - for a brief stretch. This small part starts at Breglia 749 m and leads after a steep stretch at the beginning almost completely downhill through the woods with some good views on the lake and the surrounding mountains. The trail also leads through the picturesque village of Barna with its lovely church square.

Route
From the bus stop at Breglia, cross the road and pick up the road leading steeply uphill in the direction of Rifugio Menaggio (sign). You follow it only for 30 m. and then follow the trail marks n° 3 to the left (to the right trail 3 leads as far as Garzeno; the sign with a number 3 crossed with a red stripe indicates the 4 Valley Trail, another beautiful itinerary of 50 km). Having left the village behind you, the trail leads steeply uphill through the woods. You pass the holiday camp "Ponte" and then you get on a road, which leads downhill to the fields of "La Piazza". At the junction, where there is a little chapel, you go straight on. An easy cart track leads down to "Monti Dosso della Chiave". Then a steep trail goes down to Barna. A muletrack leads from this village through the woods down to the Senagra river. The mule-track ends up in a cart track near the troticoltura (troutfarm) and you turn left here. In front of the troutfarm there is a typical restaurant. At this point you leave trail 3 and instead of crossing the bridge you remain on the left bank of the river Senagra and continue straight on to the "Pianure" - a big pasture.
